Playing in a tournament
Signing up your team, checking in, playing your matches and following the bracket.
Tournaments are events that staff set up. Teams sign up, a bracket is drawn, and matches are played round by round until one team is left. They're separate from the normal queue and never change ratings.
Signing up
Staff post a signup panel in a channel. It shows the format, how many teams can join and who's already in.
- 1v1: press Join.
- 2v2 or 3v3: first make a party with your teammates using
/party. Then the party leader presses Join, and the whole party enters as one team. The leader becomes the captain.
When a team joins, the captain is asked for a team name. To change it later, the captain presses Join again.
To drop out, the captain presses Leave, which takes the whole team out. Teammates can't remove the team themselves.
Solo signups
If the organiser chose solo signups, everyone presses Join on their own instead, with no party. In a 2v2 or 3v3, the bot makes the teams when staff build the bracket:
- It makes as many full teams as it can from the earliest signups. If the tournament uses check-in, only players who checked in are used.
- Teams are made by each player's rating in the server. The strongest players are shared out first, going back and forth across the teams, so no team gets all the best ones.
- The best-rated player on each team is its captain, and the team is named after them, like "Sam's team". Staff can rename it.
- Anyone who doesn't fit into a full team stays on the list, but isn't in the bracket.
Check-in
Some tournaments ask teams to confirm they're still coming just before it starts. When check-in opens:
- The bot pings everyone who signed up in the signup channel.
- It also sends each player a direct message with a link to the panel.
- On the signup panel, press I'm here. If your team can't make it, the captain presses Drop out, which takes the whole team out.
Teams that don't check in are left out of the bracket. With solo signups, each player checks in for themselves. Teams that staff added by hand count as checked in.
Playing your match
- When staff start a round, the bot opens a private channel for each match. Only the two teams and staff can see it.
- You get a direct message saying your match has started, with links to the channel and to the bracket.
- The channel shows both teams, how many maps the match is best of, and which maps to play.
- Play the whole series. Later rounds are often longer, like a best of 5 or 7 for the final.
- When the series is over, press the button for the team that won. Someone from each team has to press the same winner.
If the two teams press different winners, a Scrim Supervisor settles it. As soon as a winner is agreed, they move on in the bracket.
Some organisers turn private channels off. Then the match is posted in the tournament channel instead, and staff enter the results.
The live bracket
Public tournaments have their own page on this website. It shows the bracket and updates by itself while matches are played. Click a team to see who's in it and how its matches went. The link is on the signup panel, the bracket post and your match messages.
Some tournaments also have a match for third place, between the two teams that lose in the semi-finals.
