Ratings and ranks

What your rating is, how it goes up and down, and what each rank needs.

Every player in a server has a rating. It measures how you do in that server's scrims and nothing else.

It isn't your in-game rank. The rating has nothing to do with your trophies or your Ranked rank in Brawl Stars, and scrims can't change either of them. Each server keeps its own ratings too, so you start fresh in every server.

Ranks

New players start at 1000. Your rank comes straight from your rating:

RankRating
Wood0 to 999
Bronze1000 to 1199
Silver1200 to 1399
Gold1400 to 1599
Diamond1600 to 1799
Champion1800 to 1999
Grandmaster2000 and up

By default the bot doesn't make rank roles at setup. It makes each one the first time a player reaches that rank, and swaps your role when you move. A rank nobody has reached yet has no role. Servers can instead create every rank role at setup, or not use rank roles at all.

How your rating moves

  • Who you beat matters. The bot compares the ratings on both sides. Beating a stronger team earns more than beating a weaker one, and losing to a weaker team costs more.
  • Placements. Your first 10 matches swing much further either way, so you reach your real level quickly. On a server that runs seasons, your first 10 matches of every season are placements again. Servers can change how many, or switch placements off.
  • Win streaks. Once you've won 3 in a row, every win after that adds a bonus on top. The bonus keeps growing with the streak, but by less each time. How big it is, is up to the server.
  • MVP. In ranked matches, the player with the most MVP votes gets 10 bonus rating points. If players tie, they share it.
  • Casual queues, lobbies and tournaments never change ratings.

Softer losses lower down

Losing costs less while you're climbing. Below 1400, a loss only takes part of what a normal loss would:

Your ratingAfter placementsDuring placements
Under 1000Half a loss35% of a loss
1000 to 119960% of a loss40% of a loss
1200 to 139975% of a lossHalf a loss
1400 to 1799A full lossA full loss
1800 and upA bigger lossA full loss

At 1800 and above, losses cost more than usual. That keeps the top of the ladder competitive.

Servers can also scale every gain and every loss up or down, so the exact amounts differ between servers.

Reading the result post

After a ranked match, the bot posts every player's change: how much they won or lost, and their rating before and after. Under each name is a bar from your rank's badge to the next one. It fills as you get closer, and it fades from your rank's colour to the next rank's. Next to it the post says how many points are left, like 108 ELO to Diamond. A rank up or a rank down is called out on the same line.
