How-to

Set up Season Top roles and start your first season

Name the Top roles, preview who gets them, then start the season in the right order.

You'll end up with your first season running and Top roles named your way. Seasons don't start on their own, and the first one resets every rating, so go in this order. Seasons and Season Top roles are both paid.

Get ready

  1. On the dashboard's Features page, make sure Seasons is ticked. It's on by default. Running Setup again doesn't turn it back on if you turned it off. For Top roles, also tick Season Top roles. It's off by default. Press Save.
  2. Set a results channel. If Setup made one, you already have it. If not, pick one as Results channel on the Setup page, under Channels and roles the bot uses. Or type !setupresults in the channel you want. Season news (the end of a season, and a season started on the dashboard) goes to the season news channel picked in !panel (Setup, then Add-ons), or to the results channel when none is picked. With neither, it only goes to the server owner by DM.
  3. On the Settings page, open Seasons. Set Season length (days) (default 60) now, because a later change waits for the next season. Also check Rating kept at season reset (%) (default 50%). It counts when a season ends, not when you start the first one.

Set up the Top roles

  1. On the Settings page, open Season Top roles. Nobody gets these roles while Season Top roles is off on the Features page. Players who get a Season Top role is how many players get a role: 1 to 15, default 10.
  2. Season role name is a pattern. The default is Season {season} Top {place}. S{season} Champion #{place} makes S3 Champion #1. Pre-season role name is for the best players just before the first season. The default is Beta Top {place}.
  3. Name rules: {place} once in each name. {season} once in the season name, never in the pre-season name. Only {season} and {place} go in braces. A letter or symbol between numbers. At least two letters, not just numbers. Up to 60 characters, braces included. The two names must look different.
  4. Colour: untick the Gold box to pick your own. Season role icon and Pre-season role icon take an https image link. Discord only shows icons on Boost Level 2 servers. Press Save settings in the bar at the bottom.

If a name breaks a rule, or an icon link is not https, the page says why. Your other settings still save, but the Top role names, colour and icons don't.

Start the season

On the web, open the dashboard's Season page:

  1. Before the first season shows who would get which role now. Nothing is given. The list only shows with Season Top roles ticked on the Features page.
  2. Read what starting does. It's worked out from your own settings. Type START in the box and press Start Season 1. The bot says the season has begun in your results channel.

Or in Discord:

  1. Type !previewtop10. It shows who would get which role now. Nothing is given. It only works with Season Top roles ticked on the Features page.
  2. Type !startseason.

Both ways need Scrim Manager or Manage Server.

Ratings are backed up first. If Season Top roles is ticked, the 10 best players get pre-season roles. Every rating goes back to the starting rating, 1000 unless you changed it. Wins, losses and streaks go back to zero. Rank roles come off everyone, and each player gets theirs back after their first ranked match. After that, each new season starts on its own.

Things people get wrong

  • With Season Top roles unticked, !startseason still resets every rating, but gives no roles.
  • New names or a new colour only affect roles given from then on.
  • !restoreelo can put ratings back, but it doesn't stop the season or take roles back. See Back up ratings and undo a reset.
  • A server that already has old roles like Season 3 Top 1 starts at Season 4 and gives no pre-season roles.
