Back up ratings and undo a reset

Save every rating before a risky change, and roll back to a backup if something goes wrong.

A backup saves every player's rating on your server. If a reset goes wrong or someone makes a mistake, you can put everyone back the way they were. Backups and restores are part of the paid tier. Scrim Supervisors and Scrim Managers can make a backup with !backupelo. Only Scrim Managers can restore one with !restoreelo. The server owner and anyone with Administrator or Manage Server count as a Scrim Manager. Managers can also use the Ratings card on the dashboard's Players page.

If your server changed its prefix, type that instead of !. See Change the command prefix.

When backups happen

You can type !backupelo any time, or press Back up ratings now on the Ratings card. The bot also makes a backup by itself before these:

  • !startseason
  • !resetprogress, and Reset all ratings on the Players page
  • Reset the bot, at the bottom of the dashboard's Setup page
  • A season ending, on its own, with !endseason confirm, or with the End Season button on the Season page

There is no backup before !eloreset @player. Run !backupelo first.

Restoring the backup a season end made brings back everyone's rating, wins, streaks and MVPs from before it. The new season keeps running: its number and its end date don't change.

Resetting everyone

!resetprogress (Scrim Managers) puts every player back on the starting rating, 1000 unless you changed it. Wins, losses, matches, streaks and MVPs go to zero, and peak ratings go back to the start. It happens straight away, with no confirm step. It doesn't take rank roles away, so players keep their old ones.

Reset all ratings on the Players page does the same. Type RESET in its box first. If the backup before it fails, nothing is reset.

Don't use Reset the bot just to reset ratings. It also deletes every role and channel the bot made, including Season Top roles. It puts every setting back to its default and stops the season. Only the server owner or an Administrator can use it. See Setting up the bot.

Restoring a backup

The quickest way is the Ratings card on the Players page. It only restores the newest backup. Straight after a reset, that is the backup the reset made, so this undoes it.

  1. Check Latest backup on the card. Its date must be from before the mistake.
  2. Type RESTORE in the box under Restore the latest backup. Then press that button.
  3. Check /leaderboard.
Don't make a backup first on the web. If you press Back up ratings now and then Restore the latest backup, it restores the backup you just made. Nothing changes. To keep a copy of the ratings you have now, use the Discord steps below.

For an older backup, use !restoreelo and its number in Discord:

  1. Type !restoreelo. It lists this server's backups, newest first, with the date, the time and the number of players. #1 is the newest. Find the one from before the mistake.
  2. Type !backupelo. This saves the ratings as they are now, so you can undo the restore.
  3. Type !restoreelo again. Your new backup is now #1, so the one you found is now one number higher. For example, #1 is now #2.
  4. Type !restoreelo and the number you want, for example !restoreelo 2. Type only the number, with no #.
  5. Check /leaderboard.

A restore brings back rating, wins, losses, matches played, win streak, best streak, MVPs and peak rating. Only your server is changed.

Things to know

  • Ratings and stats from matches played after that backup are lost. Match history is kept. Players who aren't in the backup lose their stats.
  • Only the last 24 backups are kept, so a new one pushes out the oldest. If you already have 24 backups and want #24, skip steps 2 and 3 in Discord. You can't undo that restore.
  • A restore doesn't stop a season, and it doesn't change anyone's roles. Season Top roles stay.
  • On the free tier, !resetprogress, Reset all ratings on the Players page and Reset the bot still make a backup, but restoring it needs the paid tier. See Free, paid and the trial.
  • Only one player is wrong? Don't restore everyone. See Fix a wrong result.
