Running a tournament

Building a bracket, taking signups, starting rounds and fixing results from the dashboard.

Tournaments are run from the dashboard. You build the event, take signups, draw the bracket and start rounds. The bot opens the match channels, collects results from the teams and moves winners along. Tournaments are part of the paid tier.

1. Create it

Open Tournaments and fill in New tournament. The name, the format, who signs up and the start time are open. Everything else sits in folds that show what's picked, so you only open the ones you want to change.

SettingWhat it does
Format1v1, 2v2 or 3v3
Who signs upTeams that enter together as a party, or solo players the bot puts into teams
Teams and signupsThe signup limit, and check-in: teams confirm they're coming before the bracket is drawn
MatchesBest of (later rounds can be longer, set on the bracket), a third-place match, and a private channel for each match where the teams report the result
BracketTwo sides meeting in the middle for the final, or one side, left to right
MapsTick the maps this tournament plays, or tick nothing to use the Maps tab. Under Add a map just for this tournament you can add a map, or a new mode with New mode..., for this tournament only.
DetailsA prize and a description for the signup post, the rules players see before they join, and a live bracket on this website that anyone can open

2. Take signups

  1. Pick a channel and post the signup panel. You can preview it first. Posting it opens signups.
  2. Teams join from the panel, as explained in Playing in a tournament.
  3. Watch the list fill. You can rename a team, disqualify one, remove one or add a team by hand.
  4. Close signups when you're ready. Open signups reopens them.

3. Check-in, if you use it

Start check-in and the bot pings everyone in the signup channel and messages each player. Remind no-shows pings only the teams that haven't checked in yet. When you build the bracket, teams that didn't check in are left out. Teams you added by hand count as checked in, because nobody on them can press the button.

4. Draw the bracket

Build the bracket in signup order, or shuffle it. If more teams signed up than you want, you can keep only some of them. The teams kept are the first ones on the list, and shuffle only mixes their order. On the bracket itself you can rename rounds and set each round's length, such as best of 3 early on and best of 7 for the final.

With solo signups in a 2v2 or 3v3, building the bracket also makes the teams:

  • Whole teams are made from the earliest signups. If you use check-in, only players who checked in are used.
  • Teams are made by rating. The strongest players are shared out first, going back and forth across the teams, so no team gets all the best ones.
  • The best-rated player on each team is its captain, and the team is named after them, like "Sam's team", until you rename it.
  • Players left over stay on the list, out of the bracket.
  • Building again keeps the teams already made. It only makes new ones if enough players are left over to fill them.

5. Start rounds

Press Start on a round to start all its matches at once. For each match the bot draws the maps, opens a private channel for the two teams, posts the details and messages every player.

6. Results

  • Teams report in their channel. When both sides press the same winner, it counts.
  • If they press different winners, a Supervisor or Manager settles it.
  • You can also set a winner or a score from the bracket at any time.
  • Fixed a mistake in an early round? Later rounds rebuild themselves, and results that no longer fit are cleared.

7. Finish

When the final is decided, the champion is shown on the bracket. Close the finished match channels from the tournament page to tidy up.
